Sawada is a friend and colleague of Akasaka who appears in the aftermath of Tsumihoroboshi-hen. Originally, he has no name and is just "a friend of Akasaka." Sawada was a supervisor of activities in Hinamizawa and is now a member of the Japan Self-Defense Forces.
Akasaka brings him to Hinamizawa 20 years after the Great Hinamizawa Disaster with Ōishi as their guide. They visit the ancient swamp, the Irie Clinic, the Sonozaki house, and finally meet Reina in the school before visiting the dump and Furude shrine.

Sawada has brown hair and eyes. He wears a light-blue shirt with a dark-blue pattern and grey jeans.
